On The Tip of A Cat's Whisker - Cosmic Unconsciousness
This one was done during one of the other albums. It ended up being this really long noise-drone. This is one of my favorite songs. It has some fantastic sounds and vibrations when turned up loud. I love the end of it. There's a sample from Repo Man at the end that I thought was endearing enough to be on this. It's also what gave the song its name.

Wow, this is the fifth album I did. Out of all of them this one is my favorite.
The sky turned dark and from it opened a portal wherein the Ultraviolet Devil returned to wreak his revenge on the world. Nothing would stop it now. Nothing did. Has a bonus track I made two nights ago! Bonus track has nothing to do with the story at all, it's more like end credits.

On The Tip of A Cat's Whisker - Wisps
This album was the mellow one. I had visions of will-o'-the-wisps dancing in bogs as the visual part of this. Tried to keep this one a creepy, tense album. I like this one. The sounds I was making was starting to evolve a little bit and I experimented with more sounds, but kept the effects and convolutions to a minimum if you even believe that. I think there might be guitar on this album but who can say?

Third album of cheese-grater style noise. This one is about a creature called the Ultraviolet Devil who comes out of the sky and wreaks havoc on mankind. I imagine it all to be like some kind of terrible acid trip with this as the soundtrack. Maybe someday I'll make a movie out of it. I think it pretty much has to be a B movie.
I actually started to mess around with melodies and added my keyboard to the mix. I hardly remember making any of this...was I drunk?

Second Album of noisy doom noise.
Instruments this time are vocals and a telephone.
I had a concept of fear being embodied in these albums, but I don't know how well it panned out. When I listen to them again it just makes me feel tired. I think the energy I expend actually listening to it leaves my body sore.

On The Tip of A Cat's Whisker - Like The Breaking Of Phelgm From The Back Of Your Throat
Wow. I don't really know where this came from. I was in some sort of mood where I was depressed but feeling super creative. I had just moved back home after living downtown and having the best summer of my life. I went back to school and spent some cold Autumn evenings creating horrible horrible noises on my computer. This was all at the tail end of 2006.
This first album is really just me seeing what noises I can make. This entire album is me taking recordings of my voice and pretty much digitally raping them.
You'll notice there's a cover song of Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy."
Out of all of the ...Cat's Whisker stuff I think I like this album the least. But played at insane volumes it can make people weird. I once danced to a song from this project on some PS2 game that let you put in your own cds. Justin has a video of it somewhere.

Oceania - Oceania
After recording the demo Oceania played as much as possible, most of the time at 946 Mason St. (the krak house). We ended up recording this cd in 2004 (I think) with Larry Dolan. The recording process was pretty rough, I think most of us could have done a lot better, but here's what resulted. It's really the only representation of that time together. Props to Larry for having the patience. Sadly you can barely hear justin on this recording which is a shame because there are some great melodies in there.
This album has the rest of the songs we wrote. My favorites were Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Whispering in Your Ear and Words.
After the release of this we broke up. Devlin went to play in Riven full-time and we all would still hang out together often. Our band ended but our friendship hasn't yet. Spectra - Spectra
For whatever reason I decided I needed to do a solo project. I think that was a buzz word in the scene at the time. I'd sit in the basement at the computer and tune down to drop D or C and write riffs that made me stretch the hell out of my fingers. I accompanied myself with an old keyboard I had.
I don't know, I don't really have much to say about this. I really liked a lot of it. The tracks are in the order they are written, and most of it was written right on the spot. This was never officially released, but if you're one of my friends, you've probably heard it.

Oceania - Demo
I bought an old Fibes drum set from Jamse Ward when I was going to school at PSU in the fall of 2002. We called the set the bull horns because of the way the toms attached to the bass drum. I had a small urge to play drums, but didn't start playing them seriously until Oceania was formed.
I hadn't been in touch with Devlin since high school. One day out of the blue he called or sent me a message over AIM about getting together and playing music with him and some friends. I told him I had a set and he said that they were looking for drums. Our first practice I was introduced to Jayme for the first time and was super intimidated because he had the biggest beard ever. Justin couldn't make the first practice so I didn't get to meet him right away.
This Demo for Oceania was recorded somewhere around 2003 in the top of my garage. I think we used Devlin's mixing board and a bunch of crappy mics. The vocals were recorded at Devlin's house with Jayme stuck in a closet screaming while we all watched a Deep Purple DVD with Devlin's brother, Ethan.
The line-up was:
Guitar: Jayme Peck (The Palmerraids, This Broken Rule, Input-A, Fighting For Monuments, Countless other projects I don't know about)
Guitar: Justin Passino (For The Kid in The Back, Fighting For Monuments, Yo! Adrian, Robot Saves The World)
Bass: Devlin Rice (Oceania, Riven, Nuclear Power Pants, Dr. Fuck Yeah)
Drums: Travis Luther
The opening track, Intro, was a jam we did and was used as the name implies. The second song, Techk? was the first song we wrote together. It was also the first song we took out our live play list and sent to an early grave. Wooden Shoe was played throughout our time together and I think it was Jay Krak's favorite song because it was about sabotaging work. Emotion VS Cognition had all of us yelling "Shove it right up your motherfucking ass" in Devlin's closet. I don't remember if his folks were home or not. Emotion to Cognition was a great song. It was the mellowest one we had. Justin really liked it.

Stutter At 7 - Die Die Diabetic
Oh, Stutter at 7.
I'll never forget your teen-angst-fueled power.
I got a Sunn 2x15 speaker cabinet and a Kasino PA head from a girlfriend in 9th grade for $100. I got a crappy Ibanez guitar for about $170 from a Musician's friend. I bought a DOD Death Metal distortion pedal and (not on purpose) traded it for a DOD Grunge Metal distortion pedal. This was my guitar rig. I had no clue what the fuck I was doing, but it didn't matter because it was loud, it was fun, and I finally got to play some shows at places I'd been watching them for years.
The line-up was

Bass: (Oceania, Riven, Nuclear Power Pants, Dr. Fuck Yeah)

I almost cringe when listening to this recording. It was such a weird time of my life. We all were terrible at recording the way we did. My guitar was out of tune horribly, the bass lines and guitar don't even match up sometimes, the drum rhythms get out of sync with everything and the vocals are screamed and mumbled at the same time at a speed so fast as to leave everything sounding like a tire screech on hot pavement.
But there was a lot of feeling behind the lyrics, mostly written by Ben Rush and Devlin. Devlin had wicked ADD so of course there's a song about him wearing a top hat and eating the world. Superficial girls is pretty self-explanatory. Punk Cannot Be Bought is about punk being an ideal and not a product. Shitstain is about someone who stole Ben Laundry's Rancid cd (the jury was out on this one).
Controversy abound, we had a song about ending Women Suffrage. I still don't know why. I'm pretty sure it was a big joke. Also was the song about religion, which I don't remember the real name, and was pretty much about believing that any organized religion is a sham and a well-maintained lie. I Killed My Girlfriend on Valentine's Day is clearly some kind of irony, but seeing as most of us didn't have a girlfriend I have no clue what the meaning was.
I Hate Texas was the "hit" for us, especially since George W. Bush's reign of terror had recently begun. So we were in before it was hip to hate on him. Skulls is the god-awful cover of the Misfits song of the same name. I think some sort of formal apology needs to be made to Danzig and crew, but it's pretty funny to listen to reverb-soaked Devlin do his best impression. The wail at the end it pretty sick.
So there you have it. S@7 experienced a very very very brief reunion in Ken Provost's trailer around 2003-2004 with Wayne Plumador on drums. We were going to try to relearn some songs to play again, but it never panned out. Probably for the best.
